Idea
A pre-save page is a link page where fans save an upcoming song to their streaming library before release day. A smart link is a single link that sends a fan to the right music platform for them. The field is crowded, and every tool in it gives the fan a free save while the artist earns $0.
It is just a free save for a service the artist does not own.
A release page gives the artist the money and the email list that a pre-save page never captures. It is a page for one release where fans buy early access, join the email list and see the music video. I like it because the list the artist builds is theirs, not a platform's.
An artist sets a price and picks what early buyers get, like the track before release, a lyric card or a shout-out. The music video sits at the top of the page. It embeds through HeyBop, an AI music video generator that turns songs into beat-synced videos.
Why now
- DropKit, an early-access release page tool for independent artists, charges 10% per sale with no monthly fee. Someone already sells this as a product for artists, so 10% per sale is the market price for the format.
- Artists using DropKit's early-access release pages made $580 from 21 fans, with fans paying an average of about $28 each. Early access earns real money from a small audience, so you do not need a large following.
- Fans spent $225 million on Bandcamp, a music store where fans buy directly from artists, in the past year. Fans already spend at this scale buying directly from artists, so the behavior this page asks for is established.
- Hypeddit, a music promotion service with smart links, pre-saves and download gates, has 100,000+ artists and paid plans from $108 a year. 100,000 artists already pay for music marketing tools, so the buyer is active and used to paying.
How to validate it
- Build a release page using Bandzoogle, a website builder and store for musicians. Add a buy button, an email field and a video embed at the top. Pass: yes: the checkout, email field and video embed all work on one live page.
- Give 3 independent artists the page free for their next single. Ask each to use it for a real drop and share the link to their fans. Pass: yes: at least 1 fan on each artist's page pays before the single drops.
- Email 5 independent artists releasing a single in the next 30 days. Offer each a release page at $9, a one-time fee per release. Hypeddit charges $9 a month for smart links with no checkout. I would price one release page at $9 once, the same cost per release and with checkout included. Pass: 2 or more artists pay within a week.
- Post about the tool and a live example page in the r/musicmarketing community on Reddit. Pass: 10 or more artists ask for access.
